About

Our parents, Bob and Karen Carson, started Granite Knoll Farm in 1979. They wanted a family farm, where we would learn the values, work ethic and love of animals that naturally come with growing up on a farm. More than 40 years later, that tradition continues.

There are three Carson children and we are all still involved with Granite Knoll, as well as our own farms. Jennie, Joel and their boys help mom with the day-to-day operations. Kelly, Jay and their boys help when in town, as do Trace and Sara Beth. We derived the Granite Knoll name from the black granite rocks found around the farm.

We have predominantly raised Limousin cattle at Granite Knoll Farm, with the addition of an Angus bull in recent years. We have good reason to take great pride in the cow families we have produced through the years. It’s all a credit to our dad, Dr. Carson, who relied on his expertise and passion to continuously breed quality, healthy cattle.

Mom and dad were equally devoted to raising us with a love for the work they did. We each showed cattle at all levels, and it was normal for family vacations to involve a cow or two. We are all still active supporters of 4-H and FFA.

The veterinarians in our family may have been trained to focus on cattle health, but truthfully, everyone at Granite Knoll inherited that trait. Dad was adamant that we pay attention to all the details of farm life, but especially the well-being of our animals.

For decades, we would send cattle that weren’t retained on the farm to feed yards out west, but in recent years, it became clear that changes needed to be made. Now our desire is to serve local communities with farm-to-table beef. The health and quality of our cattle remains our top priority, but other families can now sit down and enjoy the same great beef that our family has done for years.
